Publish panel redesign
Creating a faster, simpler, and more intuitive publishing experience

ROLE
Lead Product Designer — end-to-end redesign
SCOPE
Redesigning the Publish Panel, from its structure to multi-platform publishing.
Context
TL:DR
The Publish Panel is the final step in almost every workflow — where editors take finished content and publish it to the world.
Over time, the panel had accumulated more publishing capabilities without evolving its structure. Different actions and options competed for attention, making the experience harder to navigate and the primary publishing action harder to find.
This project focused on redesigning the Publish Panel to simplify the core publishing experience while creating a structure that could support growing publishing needs.
For many editors, downloading the video and publishing it manually had become an easier alternative.
Challenge
Publish had become unnecessarily complex
The publishing flow created unnecessary friction:
Too many steps to publish
No multi-platform publishing in one action
Irrelevant options competing with common actions
Manual downloading became a workaround

Research & Insights
I combined usage patterns, client conversations, and competitive research to understand how editors actually publish and which capabilities mattered most.
INSIGHT 01
Publishing should be fast
The existing flow required users to move through multiple steps and panels to complete a publish action.
DESIGN IMPLICATION
Reduce unnecessary navigation and make the primary publishing flow faster.

INSIGHT 02
Publishing shouldn’t be limited to one platform
Editors often publish content across multiple destinations, making one-at-a-time publishing inefficient.
DESIGN IMPLICATION
Allow users to select and publish to multiple platforms in a single flow.

INSIGHT 03
Keep the experience focused and clear
The existing panel exposed more information and options than most users needed, making it harder to understand what mattered at each step.
DESIGN IMPLICATION
Prioritize key information and actions, with clear hierarchy and guidance throughout the flow.

Design exploration
A configurable workflow platform built for flexibility and simplicity
We explored two concepts to create a clearer separation between editing and publishing, while keeping the experience simple and efficient.
Version 2
Two tabs
We explored a two-tab structure, Video Details and Publish, to separate editing from publishing while keeping both within the same panel. The tabs were clear and straightforward, but publishing still required switching between them, adding friction to the flow.
What we learned:
Clear separation, but added navigation.

Version 2
Popup
We explored a dedicated Publish popup to give the experience more space and clarity. While the Publish button was prominent and the popup was easy to navigate, it disrupted the continuous workflow during real-time production.
What we learned:
Clear and focused, but disruptive to the workflow.

Final design
A smarter and more flexible search experience.
The final design keeps publishing focused and efficient, while making advanced capabilities accessible when needed.
